Cindy, Please Stop Talking

I feel an incredible amount of pity for Cindy Sheehan. She must still be experiencing intense grief due to the loss of her son, Casey, last year. As a parent, I cannot imagine enduring the death of one of my children. Furthermore, Ms. Sheehan’s personal life appears to be unraveling. In addition to losing her eldest child in the War on Terror, her husband has recently filed for divorce and her mother has even more recently suffered a stroke.


And yet Cindy fervently continues on in her recent mission, demanding that President Bush hold a meeting with her and calling for the immediate withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. As we all know, it would actually be another meeting, since he already met with her and her family soon after their tragic loss.

As I consider this situation, I find that, as much pity as I feel for Cindy for her personal tragedies and her resulting pain, I actually feel more pity for her for this misguided mission. Regardless of the various views about the premise for the war in Iraq or how it is being currently waged, an immediate withdrawal now would only serve to create a much worse situation for the citizens of Iraq, for our troops, and for our country. This proposed strategy is, at best, completely unrealistic and, at worst, incredibly perilous for the United States, the Middle East, and the rest of the world.

From "Camp Casey" outside the President's ranch in Crawford, Texas, all we hear is the same old tired rhetoric from the extreme liberal left. Cindy and her cohorts continue to make senseless assertions and analyses, even apparently befuddling Chris Matthews on a recent broadcast of "Hardball". All these issues have already been discussed and analyzed ad nauseum. There’s nothing new in those assertions and analyses. Nothing.

So Cindy’s clamorous calls for another meeting with the President serve no purpose other than making for good sound bites. They are, therefore, by definition nothing more than a political ploy and stunt. Furthermore, we can’t expect every person who disagrees with or despises the President to have an audience with him at their whim, regardless of their personal tragedy.

Since VociferousSam is dedicated to being a voice for the Biblical worldview, I’ll admit that there doesn’t seem to be Scripture directly related to every aspect of this particular situation. But in applying a Biblical worldview, there is an abundance of Scripture that addresses entrapment, trickery, hypocrisy, and false accusation, some of which are also the very things Cindy and her extreme liberal left cohorts charge against President Bush.

You shall not bear a false report; do not join your hand with a wicked man to be a malicious witness. Exodus 23:1

He who conceals hatred has lying lips, and he who spreads slander is a fool. Proverbs 10:18

Of course, we can’t know if Ms. Sheehan holds these unfortunate views herself or if they are being fed to her in some direct or indirect way. But we can be certain that, in Cindy Sheehan, the extreme liberal left has found a ready and willing mouthpiece. And regardless of her claims, Cindy Sheehan is being exploited.

Rather than acting in a way that would honor her dead son, Cindy is actually acting at the expense of Casey’s memory and the sacrifice both mother and son have made. Unless she continues to live in a state of total self-delusion, I suspect she will eventually look back on these times with regret and remorse for her words and actions. So for her own sake now and in the distant future, I simply wish Cindy would put an end to this misguided mission she is championing, go home to California, and regain her life and dignity.

cindy sheehan has unveiled the "naked emperor". bush lied to the nation, he told us saddam hussein was poised to attack us with NUCLEAR,CHEMICAL,AND BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS, colin powell before the U.N. showed "mobile biological weapon labs" that never existed. 1800 americans dead for nothing, just like vietnam, 60,000 dead for nothing, what is the limit you people will tolerate before the end of this madness,how many dead. lots of talk here about the bible,liars are not acceptable yes. cindy sheehan asks questions that make the people think,who did lie, is this not TREASON, did they not start a ILLEGAL WAR!!! it is not cindy that bugs people, it bugs people that they were decieved, lied to, and now 1800 dead in a "vietnam" ,with NO EXIT STRATEGY WHATSOEVER. what can we do now,more troops,MORE WAR AND DEATH,less troops,MORE WAR AND DEATH!!!,i believe history will be a sad reflection on what we are doing in iraq. in bush's "state of the union" speech before the war he said, "iraq will pay for the war", well mr. bush, it is 600 BILLION now, A BILLION DOLLARS A DAY ,CHECK DUE!!! now with the horror of this gulf coast hurricane this is going to cost us fortunes. bush said also that "saddam was poised to attack us with nuclear,chemical and biological weapons", this also was a LIE. so biblically mr. bush is a deciever,liar,murderer,yes. also for those of you who have such adamant opinions about abortion, read the following second kings8-12,second kings 15:16,hosea 13:16,and amos 1:13,indeed there is abortion in the bible, but it is not what you think. good day

"Abortion" in the Bible?

My first reply is related only to the last part of your comments about "abortion" in the Bible.

The Scripture references you gave are all related to the horrible situation of pregnant women being ripped open, which is double homicide, not the single homicide of abortion in the euphemism of modern western culture. Three of the references clearly indicate that God considered this murder and evil, inflicted by Hazael, Menahem, and the Ammonites:

2 Kings 8:7-15
(Elisha Predicts Evil from Hazael)
Then Elisha came to Damascus. Now Ben-hadad king of Aram was sick, and it was told him, saying, "The man of God has come here." The king said to Hazael, "Take a gift in your hand and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the LORD by him, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'" So Hazael went to meet him and took a gift in his hand, even every kind of good thing of Damascus, forty camels' loads; and he came and stood before him and said, "Your son Ben-hadad king of Aram has sent me to you, saying, 'Will I recover from this sickness?'" Then Elisha said to him, "Go, say to him, 'You will surely recover,' but the LORD has shown me that he will certainly die." He fixed his gaze steadily on him until he was ashamed, and the man of God wept. Hazael said, "Why does my lord weep?" Thus says the LORD, "For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon and for four I will not revoke its punishment, because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead in order to enlarge their borders.”

The fourth reference still indicates that the situation was horrible. The only difference in this case was that it was to be inflicted by invading armies as a direct result of the nation's disobedience and sin:

Hosea 13:16
Samaria will be held guilty,
For she has rebelled against her God
They will fall by the sword,
Their little ones will be dashed in pieces,
And their pregnant women will be ripped open.

Let it go Sam

First Sam, I appreciate your defense of the Bible in your response. It's more than a little frustrating when people attempt to pervert its teachings in order to promote their own agenda.

As for "Marky Mark's" comments, I would just let it go. There are some people that are so unreasonable and out of touch with reality that it's pointless to try having a discussion with them. Marky Mark rambled on for quite a while and didn't once come close to making anything that could be considered a rational point.

Worldview

Regarding Marky Mark, and others like him, I think it's necessary to realize that they have a humanistic worldview. They literally can't see the wrong in murdering an unborn child because to do so would interfere with their pursuit of what is ultimately important to them, their own self interest. This isn't meant as an attack on Marky Mark alone since the majority of our society shares his worldview or one very much like it.

It is we, as Christians, that have failed to realize the importance of the so-called culture war and act to defend the Christian worldview and stem the destructive influence of humanism/secularism. People like Marky Mark can't be held totally responsible for viewing the world through the filters they have been fitted with from birth.
